Title: SITTING AROUND A TABLE: BUILDING CONNECTION WITH THE UNKNOWN
Description: In this workshop, you are invited to a lunch with people from around the world and to share something from your culture that you especially appreciate. We will play "as if we are sitting around a table with people that we don't know well." The aim is to better understand the Other, the "unknown," by sharing what is meaningful for each participant from their origins, akin to a meal where each one brings something to share with others. We will share typical dishes from our cultures and explain why we like them. They can be savory dishes or sweet ones, desserts, or even drinks. And we will keep on sharing: What ingredients are in these dishes? From which country or culture do they originate? In which specific situations are these dishes appropriate? It will be a hybrid workshop with a group of people in Lisbon, in the same physical space, from a community where immigrants from Africa live. We believe that getting to know each other better and being together helps us build connections and fosters compassion towards the different, making us aware of our prejudices.
