This interactive two-hour sociodrama invites participants to explore the historical and cultural layers of the nursery rhyme
Goosey Goosey Gander. Originating during the time of Henry VIII and the Protestant Reformation, this rhyme once reflected the secret practices of Catholic priests saying Latin prayers in hiding.
Over time, its meaning has been lost, leaving a narrative of violence and age-based mistreatment—a story of an old man being thrown down the stairs.
In this workshop, we will use the context of a "trial" to bring this story to life, examining it through the lens of
ageism in today’s society. Participants will step into roles, engage in dynamic role reversals, and explore the societal neglect and stereotypes faced by older adults. Together, we will investigate why ageism, despite being a pervasive issue, often remains at the bottom of societal concerns compared to other forms of discrimination.
Through group enactments and reflections, this sociodrama aims to:
- Raise awareness of the subtle and overt ways ageism manifests in daily life.
- Foster empathy for older generations and those impacted by age-based biases.
- Challenge participants to consider actionable changes to combat ageism in their communities.
No prior experience in sociodrama or psychodrama is required—just a willingness to engage and explore! Join us for a thought-provoking and transformative journey.
