The Gottman Method for Healthy Relationships is a popular therapy that helps couples. It comes from the studies that psychologist John M. Gottman did in his private clinical practice. He believed that couple interventions must be grounded in basic research. Over the past three decades John Gottman (1984,1985,1988, 1992, 2002) has conducted a lot of basic research on couple’s interactions over time and found out the data’s ability to predict the longitudinal course of relationships. He was able to predict both stability and relationship satisfaction with samples of observational self-report and psychological data. On the basis of these predictions, John and Julie Gottman developed a theory of how relationships function well or fail, and methods to facilitate change in these relationships through psychoeducational, preventive, and therapeutic interventions.
In the two parts of the workshops, we will explore:
Foundational principles in Gottman Couple Therapy work
How to recognize the signs of flooding
Techniques for constructive resolution of an argument
How to use gentle start-up as opposed to harsh start-up
Practice the Dreams within Conflict and the ART of Compromise using Gottman Approaches
