Workshop Description:
Addressing Grief in Recovery
Clients in recovery are often burdened with unresolved grief—whether it's over the loss of a lifestyle, relationships, or the very substance or behavior that once functioned as a life raft but ultimately failed them. This grief can also stem from unresolved issues they numbed through addiction or the realization of time lost and pain caused to loved ones.In this workshop, we will explore various types of grief that clients face during early, middle, and later stages of recovery. Participants will learn and practice psychodramatic techniques to address these losses and support sustained sobriety. By reflecting on their own experiences with letting go of habits, patterns, or behaviors, participants will experience the transformative power of psychodrama to help process grief.
Methods of Presentation:
Didactic Overview: Explore grief as it relates to early, middle, and late stages of recovery.
Psychodramatic Vignettes: Participate in demonstrations addressing grief in early recovery.
Personal Exploration: Opportunity for participants to reflect on habits or patterns they’ve given up or need to let go of for personal growth.
Psychodramatic Visits: Engage in experiential exercises involving people, places, or things that were released to create a better future.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Explain the importance of addressing grief and loss in early, middle, and later recovery.
Describe the types of losses clients must address to sustain recovery.
Apply two psychodramatic techniques to help clients process grief effectively.
